Getting A Tattoo - Does It Hurt?

Does it hurt?

This is the first question in this FAQ because it’s usually the first question that people ask. The answer is yes. Having needles pierce your skin *does* hurt. But what you *really* want to know is, “How MUCH does it hurt, and can I handle it?”

It’s not nearly as bad as what you might imagine. The pain comes from the cluster of needles on the tattooing machine piercing your skin very rapidly. This sensation, however, doesn’t feel like the poking pain of an injection--it’s more of a constant vibration. You will be amazed at how quickly your body releases endorphins, (pain killers), which dullens the pain significantly.

The pain will also vary according to where on your body you get worked on. Skin right above bones (collarbone, anklebone, etc.) tend to be more painful than other areas. In addition, certain types of needles seem to hurt more than others. I personally
think the needles used for outlining produce a sharper, more noticeable pain, while the needles used for shading seem to be much more like an electrical buzz (nearly painless).

Remember, you are volunteering for the experience. The amount of pain will depend
on your psychological attitude.

NOTE: Do not drink alcohol or take illegal drugs for pain relief purposes prior to your tattoo sessions. Both aspirin and alcohol thin your blood and promote excessive
bleeding. Aspirin also decreases the clotting of blood, which will slow down your healing as well. In addition, artists do not appreciate dealing with drunks and is illegal in many states.

5 Most Painful Places to get a Tattoo! (OUCH)

Have you ever wondered where the 5 worst and most painful places were to get a tattoo on your body? You should be giving this some careful thought as pain can be outrageous if you pick one of these spots for your tattoo:

1. On the top of your Foot or Ankle. They look cute, but due to the absence of fat tissue around the ankle, it can be quite painful

2. Behind the Ear - Little skin, bone, and sensitive nerves. Also it will be shown at all times, something else to consider, unless you can hide it with long hair

3. The Chest - Right above your Rib Cage - Again there is thin skin in this area of the body

4. Eyeballs, Eye Brows, and Lips are also very painful. Yes, in fact, people do tend to get their eyeballs colored with permanent makeup. For example it helps a person with blind eye look more normal

5. The mons pubis and the land down under. There are a lot of nerves down there for both men and women. Tattooing can be painful to say the least as this was not intended for these sensitive areas

Please give it some thought when you are considering where you want to put your next tattoo!

You want to enjoy this experience, especially if you have a low pain threshold!

Tattoo Mistakes - 5 Bad Tattoo Mistakes you must avoid!

Here is some of the dreaded list of Mistakes that one can make if they rush into getting a Tattoo. If you are planning on getting a Tattoo or know of someone who is, help them out if you see them getting into one of these situations:

1. Poorly Sized Tattoo - Getting a Tattoo that is to small or positioned on the wrong part of the body that does not look appropriate. Small Tattoos, for example, look nice but if they are placed in a wide open area, like your back thigh, can look like a bruise from a distance. Especially if they are small like a quarter or silver dollar in size.

2. Cheap Tattoos - This goes without saying. You are making a permanent decision, one that will be with you for the rest of your life. If you find a discount tattoo shop, find out what their angle is? Why are they so cheap with their prices? Are they using cheaper materials, rushing the process, offering less colors for the same tattoo, only later to find out that the final product looks sub-standard. You get the idea...

3. Name Tattoos - Want the biggest regret. Well at least to say 50/50 chance in today's world that if you put your lovers name on your body and you break up, then what? You have this for the rest of your life, or you end up explaining the scar to your next partner. Ouch!

4. Impulse Tattoos - If you are in some kind of fad, such as you like the TV Show the Simpsons, and Homer is such an awesome dude so you decide to get a Tattoo of this loveable character. How will you feel having this on your body 5, 10, 15 years from now? Tattoos are permanent remember and a lot of thought has to go into getting one!

5. Being Drunk - Never, and I mean never walk into a Tattoo shop when you are drunk. Goes without saying. The next day when you wake up..........What will you think? Laugh at us for making this statement, but it does happen, unfortunately.
